RDU to Hold First Public Workshop for Potential Recreation Destination

The public is invited to provide input on a potential new recreation and wellness destination at RDU. The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority and Pacific Elm Properties are hosting three upcoming public workshops for people to learn more about the project and share their ideas for the site.  

Potential features of the recreation and wellness destination include water sports, land sports, family-focused activities, retail, food and beverage establishments, and lodging.  

The first public workshop will be held: 

Aug. 19, 2025 

4 – 7 p.m.  

Cary Senior Center Ballroom 

120 Maury O’Dell Place 

Cary, NC 27513 

The public workshop will be drop-in event. You may arrive anytime between 4 and 7 p.m. 

The goals for the project are to: 

  • Create a unique and innovative entertainment destination that will appeal to the greater Triangle Region and may include community assets such as food and beverage, retail, hotel, recreational facilities, etc.​ 
  • Develop in a manner consistent and appropriate with the natural surroundings of the site.​ 
  • Ensure recreational users are considered in the development​. 
  • Increase non-aeronautical revenue for the Authority.​
