Answering Your Questions About Terminal 2 Construction

You might notice a big change next time you walk into the ticketing hall at RDU’s Terminal 2.  Crews have erected a large construction wall along the hall’s north end.

We know you have lots of questions — so let’s get to them.

Why is there a construction wall in Terminal 2?

We’re working to make Terminal 2 bigger and better than ever.

The floor-to-ceiling wall allows construction personnel to safely work on a major expansion that covers the ticketing hall itself, adding lanes and space to RDU’s international arrivals facilities, upgrading the airport’s baggage handling system and more.

Will construction in Terminal 2 impact my travel?

There should be no impact to your next travel day. All ticket counters and security checkpoint lanes will remain open. You might see or hear construction activity inside the terminal.

Still, we continue to recommend you arrive at least two hours prior to your domestic flight, and three hours before an international trip.

How long will construction last?

The wall itself will be up for approximately two years while this phase of work continues.

RDU’s full Terminal 2 Expansion is a long-term project, with construction expected to be completed in 2032. It’s a significant investment in the future of RDU as part of the airport’s $2.5 billion Transform RDU capital improvement program.
