As the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority moves ahead with the Transform RDU capital construction program, significant progress continues on our signature project — the replacement of Runway 5L-23R.

The new runway will carry passengers and cargo to destinations around the world and provide greater economic opportunities for our region.

RS&H, one of the many contractors who are making the new runway a reality, recently captured video that depicts the scale of the project.

The Airport Authority broke ground on the replacement runway in October 2023. Construction crews currently are performing site work, grading, drainage and utility relocation.

The runway is expected to be completed in 2029.
