Airport Authority Board Passes $419 Million FY 2024-2025 Budget

Breeze and Sun Country to Move to Terminal 1 in April

The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority Board passed a $419 million budget Thursday for the fiscal year beginning April 1. The Fiscal Year 2024-2025 budget is based on projected record traffic totaling more than 15.5 million passengers, a 1.1 million passenger increase compared to Fiscal Year 2023-2024. The budget spends $133 million on operating expenses and invests $226 million in capital infrastructure.

“As our community grows and we welcome more airlines, flights and travelers, the Authority’s operating and capital budgets will help us invest in our workforce, technology and the community while building for the future,” said Michael Landguth, president and CEO of the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority. “We are keenly focused on maintaining a world-class experience for the 15.5 million passengers projected to fly through RDU in the coming fiscal year.”

Passenger Traffic: More than 986,000 passengers flew through the airport in February after a typically slow month in January. February’s passenger count was 1.9 percent higher than last month and 10.7 percent higher than February 2023. Spring break traffic is underway at RDU and is expected to exceed the same time period last year by six percent. Travelers should arrive at the airport early and book parking in advance at rdu.com to make their trip run smoothly.

Airline Relocation: The Airport Authority will relocate two airlines to Terminal 1 in April. Breeze Airways will begin operating out of Terminal 1 on April 2 and Sun Country will start operations in Terminal 1 on April 17. The moves are being made to maximize gate space in both terminals, accommodate the airlines’ needs and prepare for continued passenger and flight growth. The Authority is updating signs on the airport campus, including on roads and in the parking deck and economy lots, to inform airport guests about the change. Passengers who mistakenly go to Terminal 2 can cross back through the parking deck to reach Terminal 1, a less than five-minute walk.

Frontier Expansion: Frontier will expand service to five popular destinations next month in time for spring and summer travel. The airline plans to add routes to Boston, Miami, New York-LaGuardia and Tampa on April 10. Service to Chicago O’Hare begins April 11.
