Raleigh-Durham International Airport will conduct required live fire training this week near the RDU’s maintenance facility, beginning Monday, Aug. 22.
Local residents and airport guests and employees are advised that the simulator may produce visible flames and smoke. RDU Fire-Rescue will hold training on a former runway on the east side of the airfield. There is no anticipated impact to airport operations.
RDU’s emergency services team will respond to the simulated aircraft fire using the airport’s fire equipment.
The live fire exercise is part of annual training required by the Federal Aviation Administration.
