RDU Airport, N.C. – To ensure that our Park Central parking deck will serve Triangle travelers for decades to come, the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority board awarded a $4.5 million contract to perform important asset preservation work beginning this March.
The work includes improvements to concrete and steel surfaces as well as drainage systems, expansion joints, ceiling work and other infrastructure work. The garage will also be cleaned, painted and restriped as part of the project. All work is aimed at enhancing and extending the life of the garages which range from 13-30 years old.
“For decades, these parking garages have played a crucial role in connecting our customers to the people and places that matter most, “said Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority President and CEO Michael Landguth. “It isn’t glamorous work but preventative maintenance projects such as this help ensure that our award-winning facilities can continue serve our customers for many years to come.”
This project is expected to begin in March and last until the holiday season. It will reduce the available spaces in ParkRDU Central by 1,000-1,500 throughout the duration of the work.
The preservation project is part of a $20 million, 5-year parking transformation program to enhance RDU parking. Last year, the airport relaunched its parking program as well as introduced the very popular ParkRDU Premier lot. Additional enhancements, such as elevator and moving sidewalk improvements are planned in the coming years.
