Blasting of underground rock to occur through September 2024

The Authority is making progress on several construction projects this spring, including the expansion of Park Economy 3. Beginning April 24, RDU guests and neighbors may encounter some additional construction noise when they park in the lot and utilize area businesses.
The Authority’s contractors will use the common practice of localized blasting of underground rock during the earthwork and grading portion of the expansion project. This method is the most efficient way to remove rock and level the site in preparation for building the lot. Permits have been obtained from local officials and all safety precautions will be observed to prevent injuries or damage.
Park Economy 3 will remain open for guests as normal. Signage is posted to indicate the affected construction zone(s) and construction or Authority personnel may be present to provide additional instructions.
The nearly daily blasting is scheduled to happen for a short duration – only once per day during normal business hours, Monday through Saturday, and will not occur on holidays. A warning siren will sound three times prior to each blast and all necessary permits have been obtained.
This phase of construction is expected to be completed in September 2024.
