Airline to Add Six New Direct Flights, At Least 50 Employees
Avelo Airlines announced it will launch six new direct flights at RDU in February and create at least 50 jobs in the Research Triangle region. The new routes will connect travelers with destinations across Florida, including Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando, Palm Beach, Sarasota and Tampa. Avelo will also strengthen its commitment to the local market by opening a base at RDU in February.
“The Research Triangle has long been recognized as one of the best places in the country to live, work and visit,” said Michael Landguth, president and CEO of the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority. “We are excited to see Avelo expand their footprint at RDU and create exciting new job opportunities at the airport.”
Avelo will initially position one Boeing Next-Generation (NG) 737 at RDU and plans to add a second 737 in the first half of 2023. The airline anticipates creating the direct and indirect aviation-related jobs over the next 12 months to support its base. The roles will include a combination of Avelo crewmembers and jobs with Avelo business partners operating at RDU, including customer service, flight attendants, pilots, supervisors and aircraft technical operations and maintenance positions.
The announcement comes the same year Avelo began service at RDU. The airline launched nonstop flights in May from RDU to Tweed-New Haven Airport in Connecticut, providing business and leisure travelers with affordable and convenient options for visiting the New England and New York regions. Fort Myers, Palm Beach and Sarasota are new nonstop destinations for RDU and will give local travelers even greater access to locales in the Sunshine State.
Avelo Airlines Chairman and CEO Andrew Levy said, “Raleigh-Durham, say hello to more growth! Our Triangle-area Customers tell us they have loved flying Avelo since we took flight at RDU last May. Our six new nonstop Florida routes — coupled with Avelo’s everyday low fares, convenience and reliability — will inspire even more travel to and from this fast-growing region. We appreciate the warm reception Avelo has received from Raleigh-Durham, and we look forward to bolstering our presence in this vibrant community with the opening of our fifth base here next February.”
