Runway Operations

Note: RDU’s runway 5L-23R, the primary commercial runway located on the west side of the airport adjacent to Terminal 2, will close daily for rehabilitation Monday through Saturday through Dec. 21. The closures are weather dependent and the project schedule provides flexibility to allow runway work to occur on weekends, as needed.

RDU has two primary runways (Runways 5R-23L and 5L-23R) and a third General Aviation runway (Runway 14-32). The video below describes runway operations at RDU and explains how wind direction determines the runways used by aircraft.
