Airport Parking Gets An Upgrade With Yellow-In/Yellow-Out

New equipment is part of several investments to improve parking experience

RDU Airport, N.C. – The color yellow means an improved parking experience at Raleigh-Durham International Airport. This week, the airport began replacing entry, exit and pay-on-foot equipment in the Premier and Central lots.

During the transition, customers must enter and exit using the same type of entry and exit equipment. To help, the airport is color-coding entrance and exit lanes to help customers easily enter and exit the garage.

“Parking is very important to our customers and our team is diligently working to take the RDU experience to the next level,” said Airport Authority President and Chief Executive Officer Michael Landguth. “This is one of several investments we’ve made recently to improve parking at RDU.”

Customers who pull tickets from lanes where new equipment has been installed (marked with yellow) must also exit through yellow lanes. Staff will be stationed at entry, exit and pay-on-foot machines to help during the transition period, which is expected to take about 30 days.

New equipment will feature license plate reader technology, eliminating lost ticket issues, as well as options for mobile payment on Apple and Android devices. The Airport Authority is working toward launching ParkRDU online booking in the first half of 2018.

Other Parking Improvements

The Airport Authority launched the Park Central Preservation Project this year to extend the life of the 11,000-space garage. That work is currently 75 percent complete and expected to finish before the end of the year. New, large temporary dynamic message signs have recently been installed at roadway entrances to inform customers of parking status changes. Also, parking ambassadors now help direct customers to available spaces, helping to save them time and reduce stress.

In the near future, new airport roadway signage is coming, including permanent dynamic message signs to help direct customers easily to available parking lots. Parking garage elevator and moving walkways rehabilitation is planned for next year.
