Installation of Structural Steel and Glulam Trusses
The framework of the new terminal is created with structural steel and Glulam trusses. Glulam is glued laminated timber. These trusses are used throughout the terminal building for structural support of the roof, but also reflect the natural landscape of North Carolina’s Piedmont region.

The north concourse is beginning to take shape from metal floor decking below to acoustical metal roofing above.

Looking north, the indent in the decking is where a moving walkway will be installed.

Looking south, the current terminal building is visible in the background.

The wooden glulam trusses that frame this photograph are wrapped in a protective UV wrapper until the metal roofing is completely installed.

As many as seven large crains are in place on a given day to install the trusses that make up the roofline that replicates the rolling hills of the Piedmont Region.
