The Departure Experience
Upon Phase Two completion in Winter 2011:
- A central atrium with ceilings up to 60 feet high (opening Phase Two).
- Three check-in islands decrease congestion in the check-in area.
- 60 automated kiosks speed up the check-in process for passengers with electronic tickets.
- A state-of-the-art baggage system screens all checked luggage behind the scenes.
- Ten security checkpoint lanes will be available to the Transportation Security Administration.
- An open air market greets passengers as they exit the checkpoint.
- Moving walkways transport passengers along the concourse which features large, glass windows offering a panoramic view of the airfield.
The Arrival Experience
Upon Phase Two completion in Winter 2011:
- Passengers arriving at RDU exit the concourse into the central atrium.
- An area for family and friends to meet arriving passengers is located near the central atrium.
- An expanded baggage claim area includes five carousels.
- A new Federal Inspection Services facility for international travelers enables the processing of 400 passengers per hour.
