This conveyor belt is in the part of Terminal 2 called the baggage makeup area. Here, airline baggage crews receive baggage from the in-line screening system to be placed on departing flights as well as place baggage from arriving planes for transfer to the baggage carousels in the terminal.

Phase One of Terminal 2 features an in-line baggage screening system that is integrated with the airport’s baggage handling system. More than 300 motors are used to run the system that features TSA-mandated explosive detection systems, or EDS machines. These systems rapidly move baggage from the counter, through the EDS machines that screen it for explosives and to the equipment that transports the luggage to departing aircraft.

The skylights in between the roof levels are called clerestories. This is an architectural term that means walls that rise above the roofline. The same material used for the curtain walls will fill in the clerestories.

The raised roof sections will be flanked with a row of windows called clerestories. This will allow more natural light to flood the concourse.

As many as seven large crains are in place on a given day to install the trusses that make up the roofline that replicates the rolling hills of the Piedmont Region.

Terminal 2 Concourse C takes shape next to what remains of Terminal C. When Terminal 2 opens in Fall 2008, what is left of Terminal C will be demolished and become the site of Terminal 2 Concourse D.

The north concourse of Terminal C was demolished in 2005 to make way for Terminal 2. When completed in 2011, Terminal 2 will be nearly three times the size of the red-roofed Terminal C, which will be completely demolished.
