Each month, RDU posts its activity reports on its web site. Here, media can find information on monthly enplanement and deplanement numbers, as well as year-to-date comparisons.
Major announcements may also be made at RDU’s monthly Airport Authority meetings, which are held the third Thursday of each month. A list of topics to be discussed is distributed to local media outlets prior to the meeting.
Airport Security
RDU is committed to passenger safety and security. As a result, airport security is a highly confidential issue. The Authority works closely with local and federal agencies in setting and implementing security procedures at the airport. The Airport Authority can provide information on the security measures that are visible to the public.
Police Investigations
The Marketing office is the public information office for the RDU Airport Authority Police Department. Please direct questions regarding criminal investigations to the Marketing office at (919) 840-7707 or 7706.
Weather and Delays
Airlines, FAA air traffic controllers and pilots determine the delay, cancellation or re-rerouting of flights during adverse weather. Weather conditions can affect airport operations due to airfield conditions, visibility or other reasons. The airport does not close during most inclement weather conditions. At times, there may be interruption in operations in order to clear snow and ice from runways and ramps. Atmospheric conditions, navigational equipment, aircraft equipment, pilot qualifications, aircraft de-icing, ground movement and terminal gate availability all impact decisions to have flights delayed, canceled or re-routed.
Inquiries about the reason for flight delays and cancellations should be directed to the appropriate airline. If adverse weather results in major delays and cancellations, the airport will communicate with the media to provide necessary information to passengers.
