Only ticketed passengers may proceed through security checkpoint per a post-September 11 FAA directive. While filming and conducting interviews at RDU, all media representatives are required to display media identification. When interviewing passengers, please be considerate of their needs and identify yourself to anyone you interview. Media is also asked to avoid staging crews in the way of passenger or vehicle traffic and in airline operational areas.
Security Screening Areas
The Transportation Security Administration is responsible for operating the security screening checkpoints. Policies on prohibited and permitted items, as well as standards for baggage screening and inspections, are set by the TSA.
Filming at the screening checkpoints is limited to the public areas prior to the checkpoints. TSA policy states that security monitors cannot be filmed.
Leased Areas
Media access to areas leased by airport tenants, which includes airlines, store owners and general aviation operator facilities, is at the discretion of the tenant. Tenants must provide approval for media access to leased areas, including private offices, stores, restaurants, waiting locations and parking facilities.
