Spring Break
Travel Season Kicks Off at RDU
RDU AIRPORT,
NC
(March 3, 2004) - As the area's college students head off for spring break
this year, Raleigh-Durham International Airport reminds those flying to
their destination to arrive at the airport two hours before their flight
departs.
Tips to keep in mind
during this year's spring travel season include:
- Follow signs to
RDU's new parking entrance for all parking within walking distance of
the terminals. RDU recently opened an additional 6,100 parking spaces
between the terminals. Remote parking is also available in Park and
Ride lots 3 and 4. Electronic signs will guide motorists.
- Use airlines' automated
kiosks to speed up the check-in process. Most airlines at RDU feature
kiosks at their ticket counters. Passengers will need a credit card
to use the kiosks. No charges are made. The credit card is used only
to identify the passenger.
- Obtain boarding
pass before proceeding to security checkpoint. All passengers must have
a boarding pass to enter the checkpoint area. Boarding passes can be
obtained on many airline web sites or at the ticketing counter.
- Bring a government-issued
photo ID. If traveling overseas, don't forget your passport.
- Limit carry-on
items to one bag and one personal item.
- Leave bags unlocked.
The federal government is now screening all checked luggage and asks
passengers to leave their bags unlocked.
- Place undeveloped
film in carry-on baggage. Checked baggage screening equipment will damage
undeveloped film.
- Remove all sharp
objects from carry-on bags before arriving at the airport. Items most
commonly left behind at security checkpoint are scissors and pocketknives.
- Place cell phones,
pagers, keys and other metal objects in carry-on bags before proceeding
through security checkpoint.
Passengers are reminded
that the terminal curb is reserved for active loading and unloading only.
The airport's hourly lots are available for drivers picking up or dropping
off travelers. Electronic signs will guide motorists to the hourly parking
areas.
