July 2, 2003 NEWS RELEASE RDU Gears Up for July 4 Holiday Rush RDU Airport, NC (July 2, 2003) - Officials at Raleigh-Durham International Airport are preparing for a busy July 4 holiday weekend with over 80,000 passengers expected to travel through the airport beginning this afternoon through Monday, July 7. Passengers are reminded to give themselves plenty of time to park, check-in with their airline and proceed through security checkpoint. To ensure security checkpoint moves as quickly as possible, the Airport Authority and the Transportation Security Administration recently added one additional security lane at each checkpoint -- just in time for the Independence Day holiday. These additional lanes will open during peak travel periods. The busiest travel days of the holiday weekend will be Thursday, July 3 and Monday, July 7. Passengers driving to the airport are reminded to watch the electronic signs, which provide information on available parking.
