RDU Implements Additional Security Measures

RDU Airport, NC (March 19, 2003) - The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority today will reinstate random inspections of vehicles approaching the terminals. The additional security measure is in response to the change in the Homeland Security threat level from yellow to orange. Signs will inform drivers of the inspection process as they enter the airport. All vehicles are subject to the random search.

As part of the additional measures, RDU will be placing signage throughout the terminals instructing passengers to report any unattended or suspicious packages to airport personnel. RDU will also use recorded announcements. As always, the Airport Authority will maintain a strong police presence throughout the airport.

At this time, all terminal area parking will remain open. In February, when the threat level was temporarily raised to orange, RDU closed all parking spaces within 300 feet of the terminals and began random vehicle inspections.

Customers traveling to the airport should be reminded that the I-70/Lumley Road entrance to the airport terminals will be closed. Park and Ride 4 will be open but access to the terminals will be restricted to the entrance accessible from Aviation Parkway and Airport Boulevard. Drivers will be able to exit the airport via the I-70/Lumley Road exit.

Passengers can visit RDU’s web site at www.rdu.com for updated information on security and parking.
