RDU
Begins Random Vehicle Searches
RDU Airport, NC -
The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority will begin conducting random searches
of vehicles approaching the airport terminals late this afternoon. The
security measure is in accordance with new federal requirements mandated
by the Transportation Security Administration. The random searches will
be in effect while the nation’s alert status remains at level orange.
Signs will inform
drivers of the inspection process as they enter the airport. All vehicles
are subject to the random search.
Customers traveling
to the airport should be reminded that the I-70/Lumley Road entrance to
the airport terminals will be closed. Park and Ride 4 will be open but
access to the terminals will be restricted to the entrance accessible
from Aviation Parkway and Airport Boulevard.
The Airport Authority
will keep the inspection process to a minimum amount of time but recommends
that passengers allow additional time for the new security procedure.
