Raleigh Durham Airport Authority Begins its Annual Holiday Performance Series: Arts in the Airport: a Holiday Edition. RDU Airport, NC --- The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority is proud to announce its annual holiday performance series ARTS IN THE AIRPORT: A HOLIDAY EDITION. Starting on November 17th and ending on January 6th, the music of the Triangle will be brought indoors to entertain and soothe weary holiday travelers. From traditional holiday carols to bluegrass, jazz ensembles to string quartets, music will fill the air at RDU. A total of thirty performances will delight the more than a million travelers expected to pass through RDU this holiday season. The two-hour long performances will take place in both Terminal A and C. A schedule of the performances can be picked up at the information counters at either terminal. Performers from around the Triangle have been selected to play, including Moontrane, a smooth jazz combo from Chapel Hill, Sweet Potato Pie, an all-female bluegrass and country band from Cary, the fun Little German Band and Dancers of Raleigh, the mesmerizing Circle In The Round of Hillsboro, who focus on traditional Japanese music, and the talented young musicians from the Duke String School. "We are thrilled to announce the start of this year's performance series," says Teresa Damiano, Director of Marketing for the Raleigh Durham Airport Authority. "Today's sophisticated travelers have learned to expect airports that are destinations in themselves, which reflect the world outside of the terminal doors. This performance series will not only make travelers' experiences within RDU more memorable and relaxing, it will encourage them to explore the arts in North Carolina." The arts are alive at RDU, and A HOLIDAY EDITION is just a part of the picture. From the performance series to temporary exhibitions and permanent installations, the Airport Authority seeks to create a positive experience for its customers by supporting the integration of the arts into its public spaces via its Master Plan for Art. In addition to the music at the airport this holiday season, travelers can enjoy Stephen Cote's The Flying Machine, an intriguing sculpture installed near the Authority's administration office and rental car complex. They can look forward to upcoming works of art including Heath Satow's Dream Of Flight, which was recently selected for permanent installation in the lobby of a new general aviation terminal, scheduled to open in early 2002. |
