Ten major airlines offer service from RDU to 36 domestic and international destinations.
To kick off 2008, airlines serving RDU began new service to popular destinations. Southwest and JetBlue began nonstop service to Fort Lauderdale. In March, American Airlines switched its daily service to London from Gatwick Airport to Heathrow Airport, opening more connections to Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
In May, Southwest began daily nonstop service to Denver, a popular leisure and business destination for RDU’s travelers.
Despite rising fuel costs, airlines serving RDU continue to offer flights to the top metropolitan areas in demand by our travelers.
In 2007, the top destinations for RDU travelers were: Philadelphia, Atlanta, New York-LaGuardia, Chicago O’Hare, Orlando, Dallas-Fort Worth, Newark, Boston-Logan, Las Vegas and Tampa.

RDU serves the Research Triangle Region of North Carolina, which is nationally recognized as one of the most dynamic and globally competitive regions in the world. The economy is supported by the stability of government, institutions of higher education and medical facilities. It is driven by the growth industries of technology, research and biosciences.
In 2007, more than 10 million passengers traveled through RDU, for a 6.4 percent gain in passenger traffic over 2006.
