Terminal 2 Opens With A Star-Studded Evening Celebration
After more than six years of construction, the south concourse of Terminal 2, as well as additional pre-security areas, opened quietly on Sunday, January 23. A day later, the Airport Authority hosted a star-studded evening celebration to mark the building's completion.
Concourse D, as well as new space in ticketing and bag claim, is home to Air Canada, Continental Airlines, United Airlines and US Airways. Fifteen new shops and restaurants, including a 24-hour Starbucks in the ticketing lobby, also opened. |

The Shops of RDU Expands Offerings on Concourse D
From North Carolina pottery to dress slacks and 24-hour coffee to pork sliders, passengers have a wealth of new shopping and dining options in Terminal 2.
With the opening of the second phase of the facility, 15 additional restaurants and stores joined the airport's concessions program, The Shops of RDU. |
Passengers Discovering Several New Amenities in Terminal 2
When the first phase of Terminal 2 opened in October 2008, passengers were introduced to several of the building's great amenities, such as power outlets at the gate waiting area seats.
Now, with the completion of the building, friends, loved ones and those picking up arriving passengers have a dedicated meeting area adjacent to the corridor, where arriving domestic passengers leave the concourse. The space is part of the ticketing lobby and located next to the airport's new 24-hour Starbucks. |

In addition to displays showing the status of arriving flights, the area also features a large LCD monitor that shows a live camera feed of passengers leaving the concourse. |
RDU Ready for Great 2011
Letter from the Chairman
As a new year begins at Raleigh-Durham International Airport, we have much to be proud of and much to look forward to in the year ahead.
After years of construction, we celebrated the completion of Terminal 2 in January. This iconic facility has already become a landmark gateway to the Research Triangle Region. With its soaring ceilings, intuitive wayfinding and state-of-the-art technology, Terminal 2 is certain to produce many great first impressions and fond last memories of our region for the millions of travelers who will pass through each year. |
Airlines Increase Flights, Change Locations
The airlines serving RDU are increasing flights and changing locations as the airport enters 2011. The increased flights are in response to higher travel demand now that the worst of the economic downturn has passed.
In 2010, RDU saw growth in not only the number of passengers, but also in the total number of commercial airline flights and cargo operations. |

Terminal 2 Will Serve Region For Years To Come
Airport Director Editorial
Terminal 2 was conceived, designed and built due to the efforts and determination of many people, all of whom pulled in a single direction. The teamwork was outstanding. It is our hope that everyone who uses Terminal 2 will have the great experience we've seen so many customers express by the looks on their faces and the comments they've made. |
Hockey World Descends on RDU
From January 27-31, the hockey world descended upon RDU as the National Hockey League's annual All-Star Game and related events were held in Raleigh.
Hundreds of hockey fans from around the world traveled through RDU during All-Star Week. The airport welcomed visitors with large banners along airport roadways, as well as signs and banners in the terminals. The Shops of RDU also carried plenty of All-Star merchandise. |
