RDU Develops Strategic Plan

The opening of the first phase of Terminal 2 marked a major milestone for the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority. And with the completion of phase two just around the corner, the Airport Authority is turning its attention to the future with a strategic planning initiative.

“The completion of Terminal 2 is a major achievement,” said Robb Teer, chairman of the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority board. “But now is no time to rest on our past accomplishments. To continue to meet our region's air transportation needs, we must be proactive and plan for the future.”

will provide a road map for future projects
and initiatives.

Last year, the Airport Authority board and RDU's senior staff held a series of meetings to identify seven strategic goals to guide the airport's growth and projects over the next five to 10 years. The goals include:

  • Operate a safe, efficient and attractive airport
  • Support or provide air, ground and support services to meet the needs of the traveling public
  • Apply best practices to protect the environment
  • Operate a fiscally sound airport able to respond to economic changes and opportunities
  • Maintain a reputation for rendering friendly, helpful and courteous service to the airport's customers and public
  • Value and develop employees in a way that builds and sustains a high-performing and collaborative organization
  • Ensure that the airport is a good place to do business and is a good business partner

More than 40 objectives have been identified to support RDU's strategic goals. Airport Authority staff has been tasked first with developing work plans to implement twelve key objectives. Staff will then tackle the remaining objectives.
