Airport Authority Ready For New Year

A new year has begun at the Airport Authority, bringing with it a renewed sense of optimism for 2010.

While a good year, we were eager to put 2009 in the books and welcome a new year and decade at RDU. Signs started to emerge late last year that the economic climate was warming up. We had our first month over month increase in some time and declines in other areas, such as cargo, seem to be bottoming out.

This Spring, we look forward to the return of Midwest Airlines, which will connect RDU with Milwaukee. A favorite destination of our business travelers, the new route should do quite well and open up new doors of commerce for our region. We will also see new service to Boston and St. Louis, as well as Baltimore and Chicago, providing even more travel opportunities for our customers.

We look forward also to seeing Terminal 2 take its final steps toward reality. Construction on the facility is progressing at a rapid pace and is on track for completion in early 2011. We look forward to opening the completed building in just about a year, with even more gates and amenities for our customers.

However, the most exciting project in the coming year is the launch of our strategic planning initiative. This process will help us determine the best way for RDU to proceed in this new decade. What makes this particular strategic plan so exciting is that we're placing the majority of planning in the hands of employees, who perhaps know the most about RDU.
