Concession Changes in Terminal 2
This summer, several exciting changes occurred in regards to The Shops of RDU in Terminal 2. Gordon Biersch, located near C8, opened an expanded 60-seat dining room. The space now features the only dining-room view of the airfield from our full-service restaurants. Also, the Skymall automated kiosk was replaced by Best Buy Express, which will offer a wider selection of electronic gadgets and accessories to our passengers.

Aviation Station Expands
In early July, site work and clearing began on sites adjacent to and across from Aviation Station at the corner of Aviation Parkway and National Guard Drive. The work will facilitate the opening of a Burger King restaurant adjacent to Sheetz by early 2011. The sitework also includes the location of a future, yet-to-be-determined casual dining restaurant in the same development. Tree clearing work across Aviation Parkway will allow the Airport Authority to build two stormwater runoff retention ponds to support development of the Aviation Station site.
National Guard Conducts Exercise
For a week in June, the N.C. National Guard conducted a full-scale drill of its Rapid Reaction Force, which assists local governments during times of disaster or crisis events. Hundreds of troops descended upon RDU for the week, simulating several terrorism and hostage scenarios. They made camp in Park and Ride 5 and simulated patrols of the terminals and surrounding property without impacting airport operations. |
