In 2003, RDU launched a taxicab program that introduced new taxis, new standards and a management system that ensured improved customer service. Recently, the Airport Authority awarded a contract to RDU Taxi Inc. to continue the program’s success. The company will employ the latest technology and management systems, while providing more ownership opportunities for taxi drivers.
RDU Taxi’s agreement with the Airport Authority will run through December 31, 2012. Arlington, Va.-based RDU Taxi Inc., whose parent company is Transportation General Inc., will replace Dulles Airport Taxi, which supervised the taxi system since 2003.

Under the new agreement, there will 115 independently owned taxis, offering more opportunities to taxicab drivers. Previously, 62 taxicabs were operator-owned. Thirty-eight were leased.
RDU Taxi Inc. will also implement a GPS navigation system in its fleet to monitor the taxis’ locations to improve the dispatching process.
Dispatch booths will remain in the same locations. The Terminal A taxi dispatch booth is located on the curb near Southwest Airlines. The Terminal C dispatch booth is located on the curb on the terminal’s lower level.
Meter rates will remain the same and are charged for trips within the taxi service area of Durham, Wake and Orange counties. Fares outside the service area may be charged at the meter rate or negotiated between the customer and driver. Typical one-way fares with estimated mileage:
