RDU Continues to Be an Award Winning Airport

The Regional Transportation Alliance (RTA) is the regional business leadership group that focuses on relieving traffic congestion and enhancing mobility. On December 13, 2006, the RTA presented three awards to the most significant mobility accomplishments for the region during 2006.

For the first time, an award for an enhancement to air service was given. The award recognized Raleigh-Durham International Airport for the creation of the region's only nonstop flight to the west coast. Delta began flying to Los Angeles (LAX) from RDU in June of this year.

Airport Director John Brantley and RDUAA Board Member Rob Teer receive an award for air service enhancement.

RDU’s Law Enforcement Department received the 2006 Partnership Award from the Transportation Security Administration. The Partnership Award recognizes industry partners whose accomplishments and performance distinctly benefit the interests of the United States, advance the TSA’s mission to protect the nation’s transportation systems and significantly enhance the TSA’s ability to achieve its goals.

The TSA Federal Security Director at RDU Michael Zunk said, “For the second year in a row, the men and women that make up the RDU police department were chosen as the most influential and supportive organization affecting the TSA mission in Eastern North Carolina.”
