Another Busy Holiday Season at RDU

The year-end holidays saw nearly 300,000 people travel through RDU. The busiest travel days were Friday, December 22, 2006 and Monday, January 1, 2007.

In response to the new carry-on restrictions for liquids and gels, RDU continued to hand out quart sized zip top baggies to passengers as they arrived at the security checkpoint. The TSA also had staff on duty to answer any questions about the new security restrictions.

Carolers added a festive touch to the terminals during the year end holidays.

RDU was decked out in all its finery for the winter holidays. Poinsettia trees were a vibrant reminder of the holiday season. Throughout the terminals, evergreen trees donated by the Christmas Tree Growers Association of North Carolina were decorated in festive style, wreaths adorned normally bare walls and music filled the terminals. RDU organized free concerts throughout the terminals to suit a variety of musical tastes and styles.

The shops and restaurants at RDU offered a full range of free activities and entertainment for holiday travelers. Free caricature drawings, Godiva chocolate tastings, a life size Hello Kitty and lots of music rounded out the holiday festivities at the airport.
