RDU Celebrates Another Successful Holiday Season |
It started with a few decorations, but by the end of December the year-end holiday festivities were an all out party. From live music to Santa and friends, it was clear that RDU knows how to celebrate the holidays.
Special thanks to the good folks at the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (NCDA&CS) and the N.C. Christmas Tree Association (NCCTA). RDU appreciates the support of Dan McKinney, President and Linda Gragg, Executive Director of the NCCTA, and Bill Glenn, NCDA&CS Marketing Specialist, who have kept RDU festive since 1997. |
 |
The North Carolina Commercial Flower Growers have kept RDU stocked with beautiful poinsettias for eight years. RDU's thanks are extended to Bonnie Holloman, Executive Director, and Debbie Hamrick, Director, Specialty Crops.
The terminal festivities were in full swing on the concourses when the restaurants and shops also got into the holiday spirit. They offered free samples, special sales and raffles, activities for children and live entertainment for holiday travelers.
The hit of the holiday season was the Holiday Music Series. Performances ranged from a tuba choir in the parking garage atrium to traditional Christmas carols in the terminals and featured many styles in between. Travelers were able to sign a guest book and they expressed appreciation for the free performances. The series was organized by Carmen Watson of Visitor Services and ran from November 20 through December 24, with more than 15 concerts.

RDU's The Paradies Shops Receives National Recognition
|
At The Paradies Shops national convention in November, the RDU team won awards for Public Relations, Best Presentation and a Nuts and Bolts award.
Eleven of the retail venues at RDU are run by The Paradies Shops, a leader in the airport concession industry. The Paradies Shops operates more than 400 stores in 60 airports and hotels across the United States and Canada.
In addition, Sam Willhite was recognized as Manager of the Year for Division 1 Airports and also won an Innovation Award for his communications board idea. |

The Paradies Shops recently presented the Airport Authority with a “Support the Cause Pink Ribbon T-shirt signed” by Authority staff and tenants. The presentation reflects The Paradies Shops' support of breast cancer research during October's breast cancer awareness month.
It sounds like a banner year for RDU's The Paradies Shops team. The Airport Authority is very proud to have them as part of the RDU family and applaud their accomplishments. Congratulations to Sam and his team at RDU. |
