New Airport Operations Center is Open

The Airport Operations Center (AOC) is now fully occupied and open for business. Located near the entrance to the parking garage, the AOC is the new home to many of RDU's operational departments. The general public can access the building through the main entrance at Level 3. This floor is occupied by Law Enforcement, Badging/Security and features a training room.

The move to this building brings together the majority of the airport's operations staff for the first time. Level 1, which has public access, is occupied by the Parking Department. Level 1 also has public doors that are accessible from the parking garage exit plaza. Level 2 is home to Information Technology, Ground Transportation and the Traffic Control Officers. On Level 4 you will find the office of the Deputy Airport Director-Operations, the offices of all the Operations officers, Central Communications and the Emergency Operations Center.

ACI Worldwide
and Regional Forecasts for Airport Traffic 2005-2020

Airports Council International (ACI) recently issued the ACI Worldwide Air Transport Forecasts 2005-2020. ACI's forecasts for the next 15 years indicate that passenger traffic will grow at a rate of 4.1 percent, effectively doubling the number of passengers served at airports by 2020. For airports worldwide, this means providing service to approximately 7.4 billion passengers.

Short-term forecasts were also compiled to cover 2005-2007. ACI reports that growth over the next three years will be unprecedented, creating short-term capacity issues at many hubs.

Passengers at RDU

The report was compiled using forecasts reported in early 2005 by 273 airports. This data represents approximately 60 percent of the total passenger traffic handled by ACI member airports worldwide.

This anticipated growth coincides with the construction of RDU's new Terminal C, which is designed to handle a larger amount of passenger traffic with a more open and airy floor plan. RDU has planned for such future growth and is excited about the expectation of serving an increased number of travelers.
