When walking into Terminal 2 this fall, be sure to look down. Beneath your feet is the work of one of the region's most prized group of craftsmen — highly polished terrazzo flooring created by David Allen Company of Raleigh.
As the largest marble, granite, terrazzo and tile contractor in the nation, David Allen Company has installed more than 37 million square feet of terrazzo. Nearly six acres of their handiwork is included in Terminal 2.

RDU and American Airlines Share History
As we prepare for the opening of Terminal 2, the Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority is looking back at the events leading to the development of the new passenger facility. The road to Terminal 2 is shared with the changes of one of the airport's busiest airlines, American Airlines.
The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority recently launched a new program to support small businesses in the airport's restaurant and retail program. The Small and Emerging Business (SEB) assistance program offers financial and technical assistance to help these businesses participate, compete and grow at RDU.
Managing RDU's Resources Wisely Letter from the Chairman
It's no secret that the aviation industry is changing. Airlines are working to meet the challenges of high fuel prices by reducing service, charging extra fees and eliminating perks. At RDU, we're not only experiencing these changes first-hand, we're also planning to thrive in an ever-changing industry with the opening of Terminal 2.
Terminal 2: A Building for the Future Airport Director Editorial
As you read this, construction of the first phase of RDU’s new Terminal 2 is very close to completion save for the items on the “punch list.” From the onset of construction of the foundations, the building has been more than two and one-half years in the making. There is yet another two and one-half years to go to completion of the second phase of construction, so in reality we're only half-way home at this point.
When Terminal 2 opens this fall, passengers will have access to some of the Triangle's most popular restaurants and shops as they wait for their flights to depart. The Carolina Ale House, 42nd Street Oyster Bar and 2nd Edition Booksellers are among the local names set to appear alongside national chains when the new terminal opens this fall.
On the morning the first phase of Terminal 2 opens for passengers, another major change will occur at RDU, the renaming of Terminal A to Terminal 1. At the same time, Terminal C will close permanently.
RDU International Airport police officers are taking to two wheels to patrol the airport's terminals and garages. Passengers won't see bicycles, however, but rather a pair of slick new Segway personal transportation devices.
