RDU SOARs This Summer
I was delighted to attend the recent SOAR into Service event that started our summer-long quest of providing top-notch customer service to our passengers (SOAR stands for Smile, Offer Assistance and Repeat). Providing great customer service is an ongoing process; it is not a fad or a flavor of the month. And the truth is, we will never stop trying to improve. It's about how well we do our jobs, and about hiring great people who like what they do and who like working with people. Employees who become our SOARing leaders — like Sandra Thorpe with GSR Services, who was named the Service Worker of the Year at the event for her excellent customer service efforts throughout the year. |

It's also about tapping into the strengths of our business partners — the airlines, the rental car agencies, the retail shops and restaurants, security staff and cleaning services, and agencies who provide temporary workers in all those categories. Customer service at an airport involves many people.

That is why it is important that we have a vision. RDU's vision is to be the best airport in the world known for our uncompromising service as judged by our customers. We focus on ways we can make a difference — hire the best people, train them how to SOAR and reward them for SOARing to reinforce good customer service.
This summer is a great time to kick off this SOARing initiative because we are climbing back into record numbers of travelers through our airport; we're about to enter a phase of extreme makeover of Terminal C to be followed by smaller but similar work at Terminal A; we have a new flight to LAX, and a new airline, JetBlue, coming to town July 20. |

Things are SOARing for RDU and we are making RDU great in service, one customer at a time.
