It's an unofficial tradition to meet winning sports teams at the airport. Fans of the Carolina Hurricanes were no different as the team returned to the airport during the Stanley Cup playoff series. Once the playoffs began, the fans began arriving to greet the team back home, no matter if they won or lost. By the time the ‘Canes reached the Stanley Cup finals, the crowds grew to several hundred. RDU was proud to play a small part in supporting the team as they skated to an exciting Game 7 victory back home in Raleigh.
Congratulations ‘Canes, winner of the 2006 Stanley Cup!

Approximately 27,500 people travel between the two destinations each year.
Another Ohio city also gained additional service from RDU: Cleveland. Continental added a fourth daily nonstop flight to the city, as well as a sixth nonstop flight to Houston. After JetBlue begins service on July 20, RDU will have 223 total daily departures to 37 cities.
