RDU travelers now have a new western destination. On June 2, Delta airlines began daily non-stop service to Salt Lake City.
Nearly 70,000 people travel between RDU and Salt Lake City each year. In the last five years the market has grown more than 70 percent. This new service offers the first non-stop flights between the two cities, linking RDU's business and leisure travelers with Delta's third largest hub. |

“Delta is proud to offer new flights from the Raleigh-Durham area, and with our new non-stop flight to Salt Lake City, we can now offer customers convenient connections to cities throughout the western United States,” said Doug Blissit, Delta's vice president — network analysis. “In terms of daily departures, as of July of this year, RDU will be the 11th largest market in Delta's network. And given Delta's success at RDU, we are actively looking at additional new market opportunities.”
Salt Lake City boasts 11 world-class ski resorts within 60 miles as well as five national and 46 state parks. Salt Lake also acts as the gateway to 100 golf courses throughout Utah, including alpine courses in the nearby Wasatch Mountains.
You don't have to be an outdoorsman to enjoy Salt Lake City. It also offers first-class accommodations, fine dining, noted attractions, historic sites and great shopping. The city has a thriving cultural center and is home to one of the nation's finest regional symphony orchestras, world-class opera, dance and theater companies, an illustrious choir and myriad art galleries. Additionally, Salt Lake is renowned for its Family History Library, which has all the necessary resources to trace your genealogy.
The addition of this non-stop service is not just a benefit to the leisure traveler. These flights benefit the business traveler as well by connecting the industry synergies of the Triangle with the Salt Lake City area. Both locales have superior medical centers and research facilities, numerous institutes of higher education and telecommunications companies.

Business travelers also have access to a hub that is farther west, which allows for easier transfers and an earlier start to their West Coast business day. Popular West Coast cities served from Salt Lake include Los Angeles, San Francisco, San Jose, Seattle and San Diego. Each of these cities was identified in RDU's recent air service study as top destinations for RDU passengers traveling west of the Mississippi. |
