Reflecting on the Past Leads RDU to an Exciting Future
Spring is an exciting time at RDU, and this year is especially exciting as we welcome JetBlue, RDU's newest airline. We have increased traffic from spring break travelers, new landscaping that highlights the natural beauty of the airport and a great start on the new Terminal C.
While we look forward to the future, I want to take a moment and honor those leaders of RDU who have taken us to where we are today. After the groundbreaking ceremony held on March 31, a special luncheon to honor RDU's past chairmen took place. These leaders collectively have dedicated an impressive 135 years of service to RDU.
Mr. Dillard Teer began service to the Authority in 1949. Mr. Teer has 31 years of service to the Authority and his presence is both still felt and missed. Mr. Teer is the father of our current Authority member, Robb Teer.
Two others began serving on the Authority board in the 1960s. They are Coolidge Elkins, who served for 28 years and Wallace Mitchell, who served 11 years. All three of these men left the Authority in 1980, 26 years ago.
We thank all of them for the role they played during the last four decades that allows the current Authority board and staff to continue to develop this airport.
Along the road we've encountered years of phenomenal growth and some lean years. We've seen the industry change, yet we've been able to adapt to changing circumstances due to good financial and facility planning by each of our board members.
We appreciate every board member and employee who has served RDU throughout the years, helping to make us the best airport in the world for our customers and the community.
All the best,

W. Stephens Toler, Chairman
