Employee of the Year
Walter Lewis, Emergency Services Shift Commander
While reviewing the multiple nominations received for Walter Lewis as Employee of the Year, it became clear that he personifies the RDU commitment to customer service. When asked the primary reason for this nomination one nominator had this response: “Walter is a person who sets an excellent example in how to work with people, treat people and try to bring out the good in them. He knows how to counsel people and show them the way to help themselves and teach others along the way. He pays it forward every day with good deeds for those who know him, as well as strangers.” |

For 28 years, Walter Lewis has provided exceptional service to RDU. He offers great leadership and has one of those jobs where he actually is in the position to save lives, from heart attacks to vehicle accidents. Lewis does his job and then some. He serves on various RDU committees, volunteers in the community and makes sure that during snow and ice emergencies the folks doing the deicing, shoveling and plowing will be fed a warm meal.
As one nominator said: “Walter is a piece of the rock that RDU built its foundation on. He has always been there for the employees of the airport authority. He provides assistance to all who need him on and off the airport. He is a pillar of his community and a great leader to all of us.”
Congratulations to Walter Lewis — the RDU Employee of the Year for 2005! |
