Terminals A and C Give Way to Terminals 1 and 2

On the night of October 25, a major change occurred at Raleigh-Durham International Airport. Terminal A was renamed Terminal 1 and Terminal C closed as Terminal 2 opened.

The Raleigh-Durham Airport Authority decided earlier this year to change the terminal names for several reasons. The opening of Terminal 2 gave the Airport Authority the perfect opportunity to bring the names of its passenger terminals in line with international naming standards, whereby terminals are generally referred to by number and concourses by letter.

The change also eliminates ever present confusion about the absence of a Terminal B. That facility was incorporated into Terminal 1 during a renovation and expansion project. The building that was formerly Terminal B consists of the area currently occupied by Southwest Airlines.

The change also extends to the naming of concourses at RDU. Passengers will notice that Concourse C is now open in Terminal 2. When the building is complete in 2011, Concourse D will open on the south side of the building.

This naming pattern gives the Airport Authority flexibility in renaming the concourse in Terminal 1 in the future and helps passengers to clearly find their way through the terminals.
