Holiday Travelers to Find Major Changes at RDU This Season

People heading through RDU this holiday season are likely to find a number of new changes alongside familiar airport holiday traditions.

Travelers are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the changes that have occurred over the past few months to reduce confusion, stress and travel delays. The changes, combined with high passenger traffic, are likely to make the 2008 travel season a busy one for the airport.

Passengers who travel infrequently or area residents meeting loved ones may not be aware that Terminal A is now Terminal 1 or that Terminal C was closed and replaced by Terminal 2. One of the biggest changes, however, is the move of Delta Air Lines from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2.

Travelers to RDU this holiday season will find major changes.
Travelers to RDU this holiday season
will find major changes, including a
new terminal, new terminal names
and airlines in different locations.

To help visitors adjust to the changes, the Airport Authority will station extra staff members throughout the terminals and parking garage to help passengers and greeters find their way. Extra staff will be on hand throughout the busy year-end holidays.

The Transportation Security Administration is also making changes to the security checkpoint area as well. Special lanes will be set up to assist families at each of RDU's three checkpoints, in addition to the family lanes already in place at Terminal 2. In addition, passengers carrying liquids exempt from the 3-1-1 rule must use the family checkpoint lanes.

In the midst of these changes will be some familiar airport holiday traditions. Between Friday, Dec. 19 and Wednesday, Dec. 24, a number of music groups will be located throughout the terminal to entertain passengers and spread holiday cheer. Also, there will be a number of children's events and other activities, such as caricature artists, throughout the terminal during the peak travel period.
